Terminating Leather Strands with Cones

Instructions

Leather Cord with Cones

  • Using flush-cutters, cut the leather cord to length. Determine the length of cord desired and double the overall length since the cord will be folded in half.
  • Using flush-cutters, cut one 12-inch length of 16-gauge, half-round dead-soft wire. File the ends if necessary.
Step 1
Pliers gripping cord with wire in loop

Fold bundled leather cords in half and hold secure with flat-nose pliers. Insert wire at fold point of cord.

Step 2
Pliers gripping cord with wire in loop

Using a pair of chain-nose pliers and round-nose pliers begin your first wrap by creating a hook around the bundled cord.

Step 3
Pliers gripping cord being wrapped in wire

Moving down the cords from the top, make four wire wraps around the bundled cords.

Step 4
Wire wrapped around cord

Feed the straight end of the wire back up through the wire wrap.

Step 5
Cone being placed on cord

String a cone onto the straight end of the wire and position so the wrapped wire is hidden inside the cone. Using flush-cutters, trim the straight end of the wire to 1-1/2 inches.

Add a dab of E-6000® adhesive to secure cone over wrapped wire.

Step 6
Cone on cord with wrapped loop

Using a pair of chain-nose pliers, round-nose pliers and flush-cutters, create a wrapped loop.

Repeat Steps 3 - 6 to finish loose leather ends on opposite side.
